fairytale fit

At Ted&Muffy, our mission is to find you a pair of boots or shoes that make you feel incredible the second you try them on. For that to happen, they’ve got to fit you perfectly, as well as look gorgeous. That’s why every design in our collection comes in an array of calf and width fittings and we have an online fit and measuring guide, so you never have to settle for anything less than perfection. Ever. We call this our Fairytale Fit Promise.

CALF MEASUREMENTS

The measuring guide:

  • Sit down and place your feet flat on the floor in front of you.
  • Take a tape measure and wrap it around the widest part of your calf, taking care not to leave a gap.
  • Measure to the nearest 1cm.

Extra tips for a perfect fit:

  • Our boots are available in odd or even cm widths. If you find that you’re between measurements, we recommend that you opt for the smaller of the two to ensure a snug fit – our luscious, natural leathers will give over time.
  • It’s worth measuring both calves and, if you find there’s is a small difference between legs (there often is),use the smallest measurement when placing your order.
  • Think about which style will fit your foot shape best – boots and shoes with pointed or almond-shaped toes are usually narrower at the front, and round and square styles have more room in the toes.
  • SUEDE BOOTS: Our soft suede gives a lot more than other leathers, so it’s a good idea to round down to the nearest cm if you’re between calf sizes.

Boot height

Unless specified in the product description, boot height is the distance in a straight line between the bottom of your heel to the top of your boot.

To make sure the height of your boots is perfect for you…

  • Check the boot height of your chosen style – you’ll need to enter your size details, as the boot heights do vary with size.
  • Sit on a seat with your knee at 90 ̊and your feet flat on the floor.
  • Place the end of a tape measure touching the floor behind the bottom of your heel.
  • Measure straight up the back of your leg to the given boot height measurement. This will give you the approximate place that the boot will sit on your leg (the boot should not sit right in the crease of the knee – this is uncomfortable when the knee is bent).

FAQs

I have wide/narrow feet. Will your boots fit me?

In calf widths of 30-41cm our boots come in a C foot fitting (standard width). In calf widths 42-50cm we manufacture the boots with a slightly wider shoe fitting. There are certain styles and shapes that are better suited to a slightly wider/narrower foot, so please consult us if you have a particular style in mind. If you need further advice, give us a call or email us and we will be happy to advise on styles that might suit your foot.

I have wide/narrow ankles, will your boots fit?

The size of the ankle on many of our boots changes with the size of the calf and the foot, and the style of the boot. In most cases we can get the right fit for you first time. However, if your experience is that your ankles are particularly large or slim compared to your calves, please refer to the Fit Notes provided on each product page to get a better idea of the fit of each of our styles. If you need further assistance, give us a call or email us. We will be happy to advise on styles that might suit your ankles.

I’m a first time buyer, what should I bear in mind?

  • Narrow heels (such as stiletto) - when buying a pair of boots or shoes with a narrow heel, the pressure exerted on the heel is significant and the heavier the wear, the quicker the rubber ‘heel tip’ will wear out. If you plan to wear narrow heeled boots/shoes over extended periods of time, be aware that you will need to replace the heel tips regularly and before the tips wear completely. Replacing the heel tips with a metal tip would make your boots more hard-wearing.
  • Pointed styles - these boots or shoes can wear more quickly at the toe-piece. The tips should be replaced when they begin to look worn.
  • Ankles - expect your boots to crease around the ankle over time. There needs to be space between your ankle and the boot to allow for freedom of movement. If they were made too tight in this area they would not be wearable.
  • If you are buying online - it is very easy, just select your shoe size and calf/foot width from the homepage here or the boots page here and hit search. The website will show you everything that is in stock in your size at that moment. If you have any questions we’re here to help so please email us or give us a call.

Foot Width

For the perfect width fitting, follow these simple steps:

  • Place a fabric tape measure on the floor cm side down.
  • Place your foot on the tape measure and stand firmly on top of it.
  • Measure around the circumference of your foot at its widest point – usually from the bone just below your big toe, to the bone below your little toe (the tape measure should be at a slight angle).
  • Make a note of your measurement. It’s quite common to find a slight variation in size between each foot, so it’s best to measure both feet and use the wider measurement.
  • On the Shoes or Ankle Boots page select your foot size and then choose your corresponding width fitting; ‘narrow’, ‘standard’ or ‘wide’. E.g. if you are a foot size 37 and your feet measure 21.5cm (8.1/2"), then you would be ‘narrow’.
